YES! Expo 2006 Event Day Information

YES! Expo Schedule:

YES! Expo schedule for Thursday, November 2, 2006 will include the following sessions:

  • Session 1: 7:30 am to 10:30 am
  • Session 2: 8:30 am to 11:30 am
  • Session 3: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

A ticket is required to enter YES! Expo. All sessions are currently full and tickets are no longer available. Please go to the News Page for waiting list information.

Arrival at YES! Expo:

If you are arriving by bus, you should stay on the bus until it has been parked so that you and your students will know its location, as you will need to return to this location when you depart (review “Bus Driving and Parking” below for more information). If you are arriving by car, you should drive directly to a parking facility (review “Private Vehicle Driving and Parking” below for more information).

All participants are to enter Ford Field via Gate A (corner of Adams and Brush Streets across from Comerica Park). Please exit YES! Expo via Gate B (corner of Brush and Montcalm Streets). There is a small plaza outside this gate where students should meet teachers and chaperones.

Upon arriving at Ford Field, each participant will receive a guide book, an information booklet with a map for locating exhibits, and a bag for carrying information and gifts offered by exhibitors. Tickets will be collected at the door. Again, to avoid congestion, please have students complete the form on the back of their tickets before they arrive.

Yes! Expo Service Center:

The YES! Expo Service Center, hosted by Innovation Emporium, Inc., is located at the bottom of the escalator in the Gate A atrium. Please stop at the Service Center anytime for YES! Expo information or answers to any questions you might have. During the day, lost participants will be escorted to the Service Center by YES! Expo staff.

Event Organization:

You will find exhibits around the entire concourse and on the playing field itself. The concourse is divided into streets; one street on each side of the field: Adams, St. Antoine, Montcalm and Brush. You might find it convenient to set a meeting place for students at a particular location on one of the streets or at a gate. The YES! Expo Service Center by Gate A is located at the “corner” of Brush and Adams Streets.

Bill Nye Show:

The Bill Nye the Science Guy show is scheduled for each session of the YES! Expo. You will be directed to stadium seating at the St. Antoine Street end of Ford Field about 20 minutes before the show is scheduled to begin. Show times are 9:30 a.m. for Sessions 1 and 2, 12:00 noon for Session 3. Session and show times may be found on your tickets. Please view the stadium monitors for current information and seating instructions prior to the show..

Teacher Resource Center:

This area has been specially designed for teachers to obtain resources related to engineering and science topics for the classroom, professional development opportunities, and curriculum programs such as Ford PAS, SAE World in Motion, and Michigan DEQ’s Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support. The Resource Center is located near the YES! Expo exit at Gate B.

Food and Amenities:

Tell your students that food and beverages may not be brought into Ford Field, but must be left on the bus. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at Ford Field, and we are happy to say that the Ford Field concessionaire Levy Restaurants has made a reduced price menu available to YES! Expo participants. A hot dog, fountain soda and potato chips meal package will be on sale for $5, about half the usual Ford Field prices. Pizza, nachos, popcorn, coffee, hot chocolate, water and other items also will be available. Restrooms are located around the concourse, but not on the field itself. The Roar and More—the Detroit Lions’ Official Team Store—located in Gate A adjacent to the Service Center will be open for purchase of Detroit Lions merchandise.

Ford Field rules:

All of the rules and regulations that apply to regular Detroit Lions games also apply to the YES! Expo (refer to “Your Guide to Ford Field” at www.fordfield.com). Security will be enforced, so please make sure your students understand these regulations. Because we will be using the playing field itself, there are a few additional rules. Please leave all food and beverages behind when visiting exhibits located on the field. Only flat shoes are permitted on the field – no spike heels. It is recommended that you and your classes visit the field for a unique perspective - it also offers a great place to take photographs of the group.

Private Vehicle Driving and Parking:

If you are driving a car to the YES! Expo, you should follow the enclosed directions for your trip. Lot 3, Lot 5, and the Tigers/Lions Parking Structure on Montcalm Street, will be open. Parking for YES! Expo should cost $4 regardless of the length of your stay.

Bus Driving and Parking:

Buses coming to YES! Expo must approach Ford Field using the eastbound I-75 Service Drive and should park as indicated on the enclosed map and in the driving directions. The best route to the I-75 Service Drive from outside of the local area is the Grand River Avenue exit (Exit 50) from I-75. Those traveling south on I-75 will need to turn left off the exit, cross over I-75, and then turn left onto the I-75 Service Drive. Bus drivers should proceed in the direction of Ford Field on the eastbound I-75 Service Drive until they see Olympia Parking staff, who will direct parking. Please note the location of your bus before entering YES! Expo. Brush Street will be closed to all traffic.
